Week Six - Reply to Nike

Hey Nike,

Read your post and thought i'd reply to it this week.

I agree that Hamlet is focusing on the "appalling conditions" of Denmark in his soliloquy. Hamlet might indeed feel that life is failing him. He lost his father, his respect for his mother and now has an uncle for a father (quite sick). Plenty of weeds right there. Plenty of immoral behaviour from Denmark's most high.

Yeah Hamlet can't quite put his finger on the time of his father's death. He has to many issues clogging up his perception of life around him to be able to make a clear clarification of time. Time doesn't seem important in the grand scheme of things but it does seems a little important to Hamlet as it bothers him how quickly his mother remarried.

I agree that "I must hold my tongue" does mean that Hamlet has more to say on the matter. I also think it means that Hamlet isn't in the position to say anything as one cannot so simply challenge the King and get away with it. Hamlet lived in a time where beheadings were easily organised for lesser crimes than accusing the King of immoral behaviour. So Hamlet must hold his tongue to survive also.

Catch you later Nike.
